The Author

R. Morgan Armstrong, a retired General District Court judge, now resides at Wintergreen Resort with his wife, Jo Ann.
He is a member of the VMI Class of 1970, but because of an injury in judo, was required to transfer his second-class year and earned a B.A. degree from Duke University. After graduating from Duke in 1970, he earned a J. D. degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1973.

Upon graduation from law school, he was a Virginia prosecutor, and years later went into general practice with his brother, Ward Armstrong, in the firm of Armstrong and Armstrong.

Then, Armstrong served as a General District Court Judge for the Counties of Henry and Patrick and the City of Martinsville. Upon his retirement as Chief Judge of the 21st Judicial District, he substituted in the courts of the City of Lynchburg, Campbell County, Nelson County, and Amherst County. He is now fully retired from the bench and writes novels.

He has been a volunteer ski patroller for the Wintergreen Ski Resort from 1981 to the present, trains patrollers, was on the national board of the National Ski Patrol for two terms, and was inducted into the NSP Hall of Fame in 2019.

While a judge, he wrote the Unauthorized Practice of Law Section of the District Court Judges Bench Book for the Office of Executive Secretary, Supreme Court of Virginia.

A Serving of Revenge, a mystery novel, was published in 2020 with a second printing in 2025, and his second publication, A Serving of Deceit, was published in March 2023, and A Murder at Cunley’s Coze, a prequel set in 1932, was published in 2024. His latest novel in the series, titled A Serving of Prejudice, arrived in March 2025.
